Stone is a living material that can assume many different forms. It can be planed to provide human feet with a solid foundation in the form of paving slabs; it can be shaped to capture images in the form of monuments and sculptures; it can also become a symbol of comfort in the form of funereal art. In its metamorphosis, however, it does not lose the throbbing heart that is encased within its millenary strata, for it is the stonemason’s art to keep the spirit of stone intact and preserve its original essence. Ongaro has been handing down the secret of this art for generations, quarrying granite and shaping it according to the customers’ wishes. We quarry the highly-prized granite of Cresciano, which, after meticulous selection, is supplied in rough blocks of any size or carved according to our customers’ demands. In fact, we have a state-of-the-art workshop, where our skilful craftsmen saw, flame, carve and polish both Cresciano granite and every other type of natural stone. Our stone has transformed noteworthy buildings such as the medieval Castelgrande in Bellinzona and the Opera House in Zurich, but it has also endowed banks, private villas and gardens with warmth and elegance. In each piece of work, whether it is a sculpture, a monument, a fountain, a funereal tribute or a small architectural detail, we invest our full care and our many years of experience.
We offer competent and appropriate advice, whatever your needs.
